woodworm

Woodworm is treated by injection into the timber, not by spraying the surface

The powder under the furniture is pushed out by larvae working inside the wood, and the small round holes are exits from adults that already left. The damage is happening where a surface treatment cannot reach, so the method is injection into the timber itself.

How to tell you have woodworm

  • Fine powder, like flour, collecting under a piece of wooden furniture or a door frame.
  • Small round exit holes, one to two millimetres across, in the wood surface.
  • Wood that sounds hollow when tapped, or a section that crumbles under pressure.
  • Damage concentrated in unfinished or unpainted timber, and on the underside rather than the visible face.
  • Fresh powder returning within days of being cleaned away, which means it is active.

Why supermarket sprays do not work

Painting or spraying the surface seals the outside and leaves the larvae inside the timber untouched, which is why a treated-looking piece keeps producing powder for years. Some surface products are sold specifically for this and they do not reach the tunnels. The only thing that works is getting the treatment inside the wood.

What the technician actually does

  1. The technician establishes whether the infestation is active by clearing the frass and checking for fresh powder.
  2. Treatment is injected into the exit holes and into drilled points along the affected timber.
  3. Structural timber (lintels, door frames, roof members) is checked, not just furniture.
  4. Adjacent unfinished timber is treated preventively, because larvae move to it.
  5. A follow-up check confirms no new frass is being produced.

Longer than most treatments: two to four hours depending on how much timber is involved, because each point is done individually.

The written guarantee on woodworm

The 5-year written guarantee covers the treated timber. New pieces brought into the property after treatment are a separate case.

What we cannot do

Timber that is already structurally weakened does not recover. We stop the infestation; we do not repair the wood, and where a piece is too far gone we will say it needs replacing rather than treating.

How the price is set

Two things set it: the floor area, and how far the infestation has spread by the time we inspect. A flat with a single focus point is not the same job as a villa with activity on two floors, and the gap between them is wide. That is why there is no fixed figure we can give before seeing the place. We give you the number on the call or on WhatsApp after a few questions, and always before anyone comes out.
